An incredible opportunity to go in with our three gorgeous and unrestrained cheetah cubs – included with your stay in this room only! This is the zoo’s world famous Meet-a-Cheetah encounter and wherever possible for Wild Encounter Room guests it will be with our cheetah boys, otherwise you will meet with the renowned Solo, the cheetah that was originally raised with a puppy dog as his companion! It’s hard to get more excitement than this! Any guests over 15 years of age can go in with the cheetahs, which by itself is valued at up to $450 for 2 guests or $675 for 3 guests. Guests under 15 can watch the Cheetah encounter and then have the thrill of meeting the cheetahs at the fence! If guests would prefer not to go in with the cheetah, contact Reception before booking and they will offer you alternative encounters.
The Wild Encounter Room is a spacious room that can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. There are no wild animals outside your room, so as detailed above, you will be taken into the zoo for a hands-on meeting with the fastest animals on earth — cheetahs!* The room is a short stroll from the main uShaka Lodge lounge, down a flight of stairs and with views towards the Molonglo River. The room has a private terrace and its split-level design features a spacious lounge area.
*Due to the continuing spread of Covid, we have had to introduce some new protective measures which may affect your visit to Jamala. Our concerns are always for the health and safety of staff, guests and our beautiful animals and there have been varying reports overseas of zoo animals dying from contracting the disease from humans. Another major fear is that should we get a serious outbreak amongst our keepers, we would have no one to look after the animals. Although we realise that we can’t totally protect the keepers from it, we do have to take extra measures for all staff, as there is a real risk that another staff member could pass it on to them. Please note that all guides and keepers have been given the option of wearing either a mask or a face shield.
As the cheetahs are susceptible to Covid-19, all guests undertaking the encounter will have to be double vaccinated. We will be offering any guests who are not double vaccinated some options:
- receive a $150/per adult refund/deduction (or a $200 per adult gift shop or future booking credit), or
- we will substitute two designated not-at-risk animal encounters, or
- we will issue credit vouchers for the applicable number of Meet-a-Cheetah encounters that can be redeemed when the participants are eligible (ie they either become double vaccinated, our rules change or they can give the vouchers to people who are double vaccinated)
- we will require advance notice for any of the above
We will require proof of double vaccination for all guests over 15yo who wish to meet the cheetahs. Those not vaccinated can still attend the encounter and watch from the viewing area.
If the double vaccination requirement causes undue inconvenience, please contact us via email immediately: [email protected]. Please note that if we don’t receive adequate notice of a booking change, then normal cancellation fees will apply.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to greeting you at Jamala.
*In the rare event that the cheetah encounter cannot happen (due to unforeseen circumstances), we will introduce you to another animal or animals within the zoo.
